About Us

The Premier Golf Course In County Down, Bangor.
A Historic Golf Course Right On Your Doorstep

Bangor Golf Club was founded in 1903 with an initial nine-hole course layout. Renowned course architect, James Braid, designed the eighteen-hole golf course shortly after. The original design has been modified in places, but the course retains many of its unique features. It is these features that give Bangor GC its distinctive character and charm.

With a full-length par 71 golf course measuring 6407 yards, Bangor GC has a beautiful blend of challenging par 3’s, demanding par 4’s and lengthy par 5’s. This collection of tree-lined golf holes will ensure that every round of golf is memorable around one of Northern Ireland’s finest parkland golf courses.

Throughout the course’s history, it has hosted some major golf events. These events include the Ulster and Irish Professional Championships and star-studded Pro-Ams. Names such as Christy O’Connor Senior, Fred Daly, and Tony Jacklin have played the fairways.
In August 1962, the professional course record was set by Christy O’Connor Senior, with a score of 62.

Throughout his round, Christy shot nine birdies, eight pars, and an eagle on the 460-yard par-5. For an unforgettable round of golf, book a tee time at Bangor Golf Club – a historic golf course right on your doorstep.

Bangor Golf Club: A Golf Course With Pedigree

Up until October 2012, the club professional at Bangor was Michael Bannon. He coached our members for 13 years, where he engrained a pathway of coaching excellence with golfers of all ages and abilities. Michael remained Bangor Golf Club until he left to join Rory McIlroy on the PGA and European Tour.

Throughout the years, Rory and Michael have visited our golf course to work on the four-time major winner's skills. The Ulsterman has been seen on our practice fairway, honing his irons under his coach's watchful eye. Rors has even been spotted on the fairways to engrain his on-course technique.

As an honorary member of Bangor Golf Club, Rory McIlroy continues to view our golf course as ''one of the finest parkland courses in Ireland''.
